Storytelling is at the heart of everything I do. I can help you craft stories about your research for a variety of audiences, from policymakers to your community members to your family.

I am the author of Unsettling: Surviving Extinction Together, which reimagines an ecological ethos that is queer, anti-racist, feminist, and woven into every aspect of our lives. I hold an MFA in creative writing from the University of Washington and have taught workshops on storytelling, metaphor, nature writing, and more.

I served as the writer, editor, and social media coordinator for NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries for five years, and managed TreePeople’s social media presence. My science and creative writing has appeared in Identity Theory, Buckman Journal, The Rumpus, the Toast, American Wild, Maui Now, SEVENSEAS Magazine, Scuba Diver Life, PANK Magazine, and other publications.

I have nearly a decade of experience building science and policy communication strategies for a variety of organizations, including the U.S. Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee and NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. I can help you determine how best to get your most recent study in the news or how to work with your community on complex conservation issues.

I am also an experienced scicomm trainer and have taught scicomm to everyone from graduate students to experienced PIs. I excel at teaching researchers to communicate their science to non-scientists.

I previously managed a network of more than 4,000 Arctic researchers, policymakers, and community members, helping them collaborate on cutting-edge critical Arctic science. I’ve built a mentorship program that connects Arctic researchers of all career stages to learn from one another and grow together. And I am a practiced facilitator of inclusive online and hybrid meetings, webinars, and more.

My book, Unsettling: Surviving Extinction Together, provides a roadmap for a queer, anti-racist, feminist environmentalism. I am the founder of the Pride in the Ocean campaign, which raises awareness of LGBTQ+ people in ocean conservation, and have presented multiple times at the LGBTQ Outdoor Summit. I co-led the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries Diversity & Inclusion Committee. I led the development of the U.S. Association of Polar Early Career Scientists Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Strategy, and am the author of a white paper on equity and inclusion in Arctic science. I can provide talks on the roles of gender identity/sexuality, whiteness/race, and colonialism in science, and help you build a strategy to make your organization more inclusive.
